The Armoury is a one-of-a-kind select shop offering styles that bring together the culture of different countries. Join us as we interview co-founder Mark Cho about the boutique as well as his thoughts on Glenroyal, which the Armoury has been carrying for six years.
THE ARMOURY
A select shop run by Mark Cho and his partner Alan See. There are two locations in Hong Kong: The Armoury Pedder, which specializes in bespoke styles, and the Armoury Landmark, which handles mainly ready-made items. The Armoury Tribeca in New York is made up of combination of these two shop types.

New traditional styles not beholden to any nation
The Armoury aims to be a select shop quite unlike any other. There are plenty of boutiques that specialize in orthodox British menswear, but what the Armoury puts forth are classic styles of an international bent. In other words, we offer new traditional looks not linked to any one country that are born of mixing diverse cultures. The Armoury not only carries ready-made items, but also does bespoke items like suits, leather shoes, and eyewear. We will occassionally invite artisans known for their superb craftsmanship to come in and hold trunk shows as well. We hope to bring a little enjoyment to everyone by fitting the beauty of classic apparel into modern lifestyles.A social hub where people gather.
I often socialize with our customers in my private time. Some examples would be how I will sometimes meet with people I’ve become friends with at the cigar bar I often visit on the fourth floor of the Pedder Building where The Armoury Pedder is located, or how I frequent the whiskey shop next door The Armory Landmark. I also use our shops and nearby locations as social gathering places. While we do hold anniversary parties at the stores, sometimes we will also invite particularly good customers out for dinner separately. It’s nice to be able to make friends at these types of gatherings.A strong first impression.
I first chanced upon Glenroyal about 10 years ago at a select shop in Japan. I was quite impressed when I initially laid eyes upon their handiwork. I had never seen the bloom (the white powder that rises to the surface of leather) of bridle leather before, so I asked the shop staff if I could wipe it off (laughs). Glenroyal gave off a very unaffected and sincere impression compared to leather products from other countries like Italy or France.A fascination with the look of British-made products.
I would later come to know just how special Glenroyal is as a brand as I learned about many different sorts of leather. For instance, French or Italian products will have a different colour of thread for the stitching, with attention paid to how thinly they can sew the width. In contrast, Glenroyal gives off a rough, masculine impression, and the hardy quality of the leather also has a very “British” look to it. I found all of these things very appealing, and thus decided to carry Glenroyal at the Armoury.A story that resonates with many.
While it has been six years since we began stocking Glenroyal at the Armoury, we still find that more than a few of our clientele who lay eyes on the brand’s leatherwork for the first time are surprised by its unique finish (bloom). However, as we speak to them about how the leather ends up this way, as well as about Glenroyal’s particularity when it comes to craftsmanship and selection of materials, many of these customers find the story interesting and develop a fondness for Glenroyal products. It makes me happy when they bring their items along when they visit the store and I can see that they have been using them regularly. One of our greatest pleasures is having our clientele fall in love with quality products.
Best-selling models
We do carry several types of Glenroyal accessories in addition to bags, but the item that has become particularly popular is this flap-over briefcase. Lots of lawyers, doctors, bankers, and the like purchase black Glenroyal bags. A classic briefcase is quite bulky, so Glenroyal models prove to be quite useful due to their compact size.photo TRYOUT
