For the past decade or so, no other developed nation has matched the speed at which the UK is racing toward a cashless society. According to a 2018 survey, one in ten adults doesn’t even use cash even once per month. Now it’s also not all that uncommon to find people who don’t even keep a wallet and instead live only with credit or debit cards. As one can guess, a big part of this was the 2012 London Olympics.
The venues for the events featured terminals where customers could make purchases with a touch of their credit cards, and the public transit systems started to use the Oyster IC card, which is similar to the SUICA or PASMO we have here in Japan. Open loop contactless systems were later rolled out so that passengers could pay with the touch of a credit or debit card. The extreme convenience of these touch transactions accelerated the transition to cashless living.

In Japan, the host of the Olympic Games this year, about 25 percent of people were living cash-free in 2018. Though it’s predicted that the government will begin pushing to increase this ratio, we predict that coin cases will still prove useful for some time. That’s why we recommend this slim coin tray purse. It has a thin profile despite its hoof print shape that ensures it will never be in the way. The inner side of the flap is designed to prevent coins from falling out and act as a tray for holding them before use. This the type of portability and usefulness one can always expect from Glenroyal.
